LOCAL ALERT WEATHER DAY: Widespread thunderstorms possible today and tomorrow
Bend, OR (KTVZ) -
Today and tomorrow are both Local Alert Weather Days due to the chance for thunderstorms and high fire danger. We’ve been stormy all week but today and tomorrow will be the most impactful days thus far. Widespread thunderstorms are possible.

We’ll see storms begin this afternoon and continue into the night, so make sure you have your dog’s thundercoat ready. Storms continue Thursday beginning earlier in the afternoon but clearing into the late night.
Abundant lightning and very strong outflow winds near storms increase the possibility for new fires and rapid fire growth. A Red Flag Warning is active through Thursday morning.
There could be some brief downpours underneath storms, but many storms will not dump enough to fully cancel out fire danger. Storms could be a bit wetter Thursday as moisture continues to funnel in from the south. Moisture is energy so more moisture means there is potential for stronger storm development.
Storm chances drop Friday but there’s the possibility for an isolated storm popping up during the heat of the day. You won’t need to plan around storms on Friday but keep it in mind as you look to plan your day.
Clearing and drying conditions this weekend with temperatures in the 80s.
Tsunami alerts are out for the Oregon Coast, as well as coasts as far north as Alaska and as far south as Mexico due to an 8.8 earthquake yesterday off of Russia. The tsunami is ongoing. Waves are generally less than a foot along the Oregon Coast, and we’re likely just seeing a whole bunch of sloshing, but it’s best to stay clear of the beach until further notice while those alerts are out.
Have a wonderful Wednesday and stay safe today.
