Robot mowers offer a quiet, discreet and electric alternative for cutting grass

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ)-- Well, there's nothing quite like waking up to the sound of your neighbor mowing his lawn, but that could all change thanks to a local company. A new mower is quietly reshaping the landscape and it's entirely automated. You're looking at a robotic lawn mower operated by Newport Avenue Landscaping.

These mini mowers work almost exactly like Roombas. They map out lawns, drive themselves out when they're done cutting and plug back into their docks. One unit can do about a third of an acre on one charge.

Terry Gassaway from Newport Avenue Landscaping told KTVZ News "The big thing is that we can deploy these at night. They're quiet and the tenants don't know they're actually mowing and when they wake up, they have a freshly mowed lawn that they were unaware even happened."

Now you might notice the robot does not have a bag on it. The mower mulches up the clippings and leaves them as fertilizer for the lawn. While these mowers can be purchased more commonly they're leased from Newport Avenue Landscaping, which includes set up and maintenance.
