City of Sisters at the forefront of ODOT Funding Bill

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- As the Oregon House and Senate discuss and debate the ODOT funding bill in the special session, the sisters maintenance site has become the focal point.

As the looming crisis unfolds, ODOT has said that the Sisters maintenance site is at risk of being closed.

The City of Sisters sits at the crux between the valley and central Oregon.

The site houses just about 6 employees but those employees do a lot for the community.

They maintain roads, bridges, highways, and during winters they salt the roads and clear them of snow.

KTVZ News spoke to Sisters Mayor Jennifer Letz to learn more about the impact of this legislation

“If we see a decrease in services provided by ODOT, on their ODOT highways, it's going to greatly impact sisters. you know, the three state highways that cross sisters, through sisters.” Mayor Letz said. “And maybe the biggest concern is, is commerce. you know, a lot of our goods and services, you know, come over that pass every day.”

The ODOT workers also make sure that when there is an accident on the road, they make sure the roads stay open and first responders are safe to take care of the accident.

The Senate will not be voting on this bill till after next week.
