INTERACTIVE MAP: Oregon’s Local and Distant Tsunami Evacuation Zones

KTVZ-TV

SALEM, Ore. (KTVZ) — The State of Oregon has developed interactive maps to help residents and visitors understand how a tsunami could impact coastal communities.

The Oregon Department of Geology and Mineral Industries (DOGAMI) created the online tools to show projected tsunami inundation zones from different earthquake scenarios along the coast. The maps allow users to see which areas are most at risk and where to find safe evacuation routes.

The maps are part of a larger effort led by the Oregon Coastal Management Program, which works with local cities and counties to plan for tsunami hazards and improve community resilience. Officials say the greatest threat to the coast is a Cascadia Subduction Zone earthquake and tsunami, which could occur at any time.
