FBI releases surveillance video and images of masked individual outside of Nancy Guthrie’s home

CNN -- New black-and-white images of a person at Nancy Guthrie’s front door released by investigators do not provide an easily identifiable view of the subject, but a former deputy director of the FBI says they are still full of potential clues.

Here's the latest

• Photo release: FBI Director Kash Patel has released doorbell images showing “an armed individual” outside Nancy Guthrie’s front door the morning of her disappearance. The person appears “to have tampered with the camera,” he wrote on social media.

• A public plea: Authorities believe Guthrie, who was last seen January 31, was taken from her Arizona home against her will. Her daughter, Savannah Guthrie, posted another video yesterday saying family members believe the 84-year-old is “still out there.”

• Purported deadline passes: Guthrie’s possible abductors demanded $6 million by 5 p.m. yesterday, CNN affiliate KGUN reported, citing a note sent to the station. The note included a threat to Guthrie’s life, KGUN said. The FBI said it was not aware of any communication between the Guthrie family and suspected kidnappers.

CNN contributor Andrew McCabe notes the person’s jacket appears to have distinctive reflective elements, and the subject may be carrying a penlight in their mouth at one point.

“Any one of these little details is very small and not necessarily identifiable, but when you put them together, you overlay them, that’s when someone who knows this person looks at some of these images and says, like, ‘Oh my gosh, that’s whoever,’” McCabe said. “And really that ‘oh my gosh’ moment is what we’re hoping for.”
