FFA Tractor Competition Held at Jefferson County Fairgrounds

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ore. (KTVZ) The Future Farmers of America (FFA) hosted a tractor competition today at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds. This event provided participants with both a competitive challenge and a practical learning experience.

Teen competitors engaged in various tasks, including parking tractors with long and short trailers, attaching and detaching different farm equipment and performing routine maintenance. Judges were present to time and measure all of the activities.

Lucas Hurd, District Treasurer for the FFA, noted the varied skill levels among the participants. "We've got kids who've been doing this all their life and driving tractors since they were born. Then we've got kids. This is their first or second time being on a tractor. So the whole goal is just to teach them and give them those skills," Hurd said. District Secretary Piper Hallam also emphasized the event's dual nature. "Yes, I would definitely say this is a mix of competition and learning for different people. They're looking for that first place spot in order to qualify to state and even national level. Whereas some of us are just here to learn and have fun. I know me personally. I'm here more so to have fun and engage with my fellow members," Hallam said. Tractors for today's event were provided by Pape' Machinery and N-and-S Tractor.

Two winners selected from today's event will advance to compete at the State Fair this August.
