Scam Alert: Jury Duty Calls in Crook County Threatening Arrest

MGN Online

PRINEVILLE, Ore. (KTVZ) -- Crook County has issued a scam alert regarding fraudulent jury duty calls. Scammers are impersonating officials, falsely claiming individuals have warrants for missing jury duty and demanding immediate payment to avoid arrest.

This common extortion tactic involves fraudsters threatening jail time unless a "fine" is paid over the phone. Crook County has received over eight reports of this specific scam in one day. Courts and government agencies will never call to demand money or threaten arrest.

The scammers attempt to coerce immediate payment by presenting an urgent need to avoid legal consequences. Residents are advised not to provide any personal information or money over the phone. Individuals with questions about jury duty can contact the Crook County front office at 541-447-6398, extension six.

For further inquiries or to report similar incidents, the public should contact the Crook County front office.
