Northwest fire teams on standby as Colorado wildfires grow

US Forest Service - GMUG National Forest

CENTRAL OREGON (KTVZ) -- Colorado is leaning on national support as roughly eight wildfires burn across the state, including several that rank among the largest in its history.

The Aspen Acres Fire has become one of Colorado’s biggest recorded wildfires, while the Ferris Fire is also listed among the top 10 largest in state history as hot, dry conditions persist.

In northern Colorado, the Fishhook Fire and Green Ridge Fire are actively burning near Steamboat Springs and Stagecoach Reservoir in Routt County, prompting evacuations and heavy aerial response.

At the same time, National Wildfire Coordinating Group teams and federal partners are helping manage the Elk Fire in western Colorado, which has grown to about 574 acres and remains 0% contained, triggering pre‑evacuation notices in Hinsdale and Gunnison counties.

KTVZ has reached out to NWCG member Emilie Bedard with the U.S. Forest Service and the U.S. Department of Agriculture, along with NWCG primary member Jodie Schiffman, to learn whether any Central Oregon fire agencies are being called up to assist and how national teams are coordinating Colorado’s response.
