FIRE ALERT: Progress Update on Central Oregon Wildfires Released, Here’s the latest as of Saturday Evening

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- Firefighters in Central Oregon are actively managing multiple wildfires today as red flag warning conditions, including gusty winds and low relative humidity, impact the region. The Jefferson and Wasco County Sheriff's Offices have issued Level 1, 2 and 3 evacuations due to the ongoing fire activity, which includes unauthorized drone operations over one incident.

The Central Oregon Type 3 team is managing the 4,774-acre Ten Mile Fire, located 11 miles northeast of Madras and 7 miles south of the Highways 97 and 197 junction in rugged terrain. Firefighters today strengthened control lines around the fire's perimeter. The team is also overseeing Incident #586, which is mapped at 191 acres just north of the Ten Mile Fire and the 31-acre North Crooked Fire burning approximately seven miles north of Paulina near Lightning Spring.

For the Ten Mile Fire, firefighters increased the amount of cooled ground between existing control lines and the interior portion of the fire. Juniper clumps continue to hold heat within the interior of the fire.

Incident #586 remains in its footprint and firefighters continued securing its existing control lines today. For the North Crooked Fire, crews improved control lines and conducted mop-up operations, cooling hotspots around its perimeter.

Public drone activity occurred today over the Green Mountain Fire. Officials stated that flying personal drones near a wildfire poses a serious safety risk to responding aircraft and firefighters and it impacts their ability to effectively respond to an incident.

The Bureau of Land Management and the Forest Service have implemented several closures for public safety during these ongoing wildfire incidents.
