Bend Police Arrest Theft Suspect Following Execution of Search Warrant

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- A 27-year-old Bend resident was arrested Thursday, Sept. 24, after officers searched his apartment and recovered property tied to multiple thefts across the city.

Michael Demayo was booked into the Deschutes County Jail following an investigation by Bend Police into a vehicle break-in and several store thefts.

The investigation began on Tuesday, Sept. 22, when officers received a report of a theft from a vehicle parked at the Current Apartments at 954 SW Emkay Drive. Police determined that stolen items from the vehicle were valued at over $5,000. Through surveillance video, investigators identified apartment 103 at the complex as a residence of interest and identified Demayo as the occupant and suspect.

Investigators also linked Demayo to several retail thefts in the area. Police identified him as the suspect in thefts at a Fred Meyer store on Sept. 18 and Tuesday, Sept. 22, as well as a theft at a Petco location on Wednesday, Sept. 23.

When officers executed the search warrant at Demayo's apartment on Thursday, Sept. 24, they recovered a significant amount of stolen property. The search also uncovered evidence of an additional theft from Big Five. Bend Police said a large officer presence was stationed at the complex during the search out of an abundance of caution due to the nature of the crimes.

Bend Police officers are continuing to examine and identify the recovered stolen items. According to the department, the investigation is ongoing and additional charges are expected.
