Wash. man jailed in Sunriver condo burglaries
SUNRIVER, Ore. (KTVZ) -- A Vancouver, Washington man was arrested in Sunriver Saturday night, caught in the act of burglarizing two unoccupied condominiums, police said Monday.
Sunriver police responded just after 9 p.m. to a report of a burglary in progress at the Eaglewood Condominiums, Police Chief Cory Darling said.
Officers arrived and found Shawn Michael Schmaltz, 32, in one of the condos, Darling said. Investigating officers found a second condo had been burglarized.
Property from the burglaries were found on Schmaltz and in his SUV, a white Jeep Patriot, the police chief said.
Schmaltz was taken to the Deschutes County Jail, where he remained held Monday on two counts of first-degree burglary and two counts of third-degree criminal mischief. His bail totaled $51,000.
