Redmond firefighters extinguish brush fire sparked by unattended burn pile

REDMOND, Ore. (KTVZ) – An unattended burn pile sparked a brush fire northwest of Redmond Thursday afternoon that burned about an acre before firefighters stopped its spread, an official said.

Redmond Fire & Rescue crews were called around 2 p.m. to the reported fire that spread from a debris pile at a property in the 3500 block of Northwest Way, Captain Sean Hagen said.

Crews were able to make a quick knockdown of the fire, Hagen said, keeping it from spreading to a nearby canyon and threatened structure.

A Bureau of Land Management engine crew from Prineville helped mop up and overhaul the blaze, the captain said.
