Prineville Man Arrested In ‘Serial’ Wildlife Killing

APrineville man, arrested on multiple charges for what Oregon State Police called “serial-type killing of wildlife,” was released from the Crook County Jail Monday afternoon after posting 10 percent of his $25,000 bail, officials said.

An OSP senior trooper arrested 60-year-old Ronald Livermore on Friday after finding more than a dozen deer shot and left to waste beside U.S. Forest Service roads north of Prineville over the past several years.

“Investigators believe Livermore, who admits he is primarily a vegetarian, would usually drive around in the darkness shining his spotlight, and when he saw eyes he would just shoot at them and then drive on looking for more,” OSP Fish and Wildlife Division Sgt. David Pond of Bend said in a news release Monday.

Troopers using the OSP’s aircraft last August spotted somebody illegally hunting by spotlight in the area.That investigation led to Livermore, Pond said.

Pond said Livermore had a sawed-off.22-caliber rifle with a home-built silencer and a special compartment inthe trunk of his vehicle used to conceal the weapon.

Livermore was held at the Crook County Jail in Prineville until he posted 10 percent of his $25,000 bail late Monday afternoon, a jail officer said.

He faces eight counts of illegal taking of deer during closed season, waste of deer, hunting with the aid of a light and aggravated animal abuse, four counts of hunting with a suspended license, two counts of tampering with evidence and one count of possessing a short-barreled rifle with a silencer.
