Blast, fire destroy home south of La Pine
A home in Jack Pine Village, eight miles south of La Pine, reportedly exploded and burst into flames Monday night, and the fire destroyed the house and a nearby shop.
Neighbors in the northern Klamath County neighborhood say it happened around 6:30 Monday night on Jack Pine Road. They say several nearby homes had windows blown out; part of a roof landed in a neighbor’s yard.
The cause of the explosion and fire was under investigation, but one neighbor told NewsChannel 21 by phone there were several propane tanks on the property.
It was not immediately clear if anyone was hurt in the blast and fire at the home on Old Cabin Road. An arson investigator was reportedly on the way from Salem.
Crescent Rural Fire Protection District requested mutual aid from La Pine RFPD, and the Walker Range Fire Protection District also helped, as did the U.S. Forest Service.
The blast and fire (or possibly multiple explosions) were reported around 6:50 p.m., and the fire was declared contained around 9:30 p.m., after crews successfully fought to keep it from spreading into surrounding trees and brush.
