Are you prepared for the worst?

In the midst of the Pole Creek Fire and all other potential disasters, experts gathered in Sisters Saturday to get information out into the community.

The Life Flight helicopter touched down outside Sisters Elementary School to kick off to The Disaster Preparedness Fair.

There were several companies and booths with information people need when faced with an emergency.

Experts say people should have enough food, water and supplies packed up and ready to go to be on their own for three days.

“You have to have self reliance and you have to be able to not only provide for yourself, not only provide for your family, but really also be a help to your neighbors and family members that might be extended,” said event organizer Jack McGowan.

“Central Oregon is all about us, and the more we can be prepared, the better it’s going to be,” he said.

State and federal agencies also took part in Saturday’s fair. McGowan said for organizers, the event gives them piece of mind, knowing that community members walked away with more information and a better understanding of being prepared.
