Snow, ice turn Redmond roads slick
Snow and temperatures around freezing made for slick roads in the Redmond area, causing slideoffs and crashes Saturday afternoon and evening.
“It’s been pretty slick,” said Redmond police Lt. Nathan Garibay. “We definitely have black ice all over, so people just need to slow down.”
None of the crashes had caused serious injuries, Garibay said, but in one of the worst, a car crashed into a power pole on NW Helmholtz Way, between Obsidian and Wickiup avenues around 3:30 p.m., causing power lines to fall onto the vehicle and closing the road for hours.
Central Electric Cooperative repair workers were called in after the crash, which knocked out power in the area.
NewsChannel 21’s Mackenzie Wilson says more sunshine is due Sunday, with possible rain and snow showers. Then another storm is due, with a warm front Sunday night that will warm temperatures above freezing and into the 40s early in the new weeks.
