Fight at Meadow Camp leads to 2 arrests

KTVZ

A dispute involving several men at the Meadow Camp picnic area Monday night led to a fight, two minor injuries and the arrests of two brothers, Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies said.

Deputies were dispatched around 9:45 p.m. to a reported knife fight at the day-use area off Century Drive west of Bend, said Sgt. Troy Gotchy. Several Bend police officers and Oregon State Police troopers also responded to assist, as the reporting person said three males were fighting, at least one with a knife.

As deputies responded, the caller told dispatchers the men had left the area in a silver Audi, Gotchy said. A deputy and trooper passed the car on Century Drive, turned around and pulled it over in the Entrada Lodge parking lot. Three men in the car were detained, he said.

Deputies and officers saw several cars leaving the area at the entrance to Meadow Camp, Gotchy said. Several witnesses were interviewed, and one allegedly involved man was found in one of the cars, trying to leave the scene, and detained.

An investigation found that David Michael Seeley, 28, of Bend, and three other men arrived at Meadow Camp together in the Audi, Gotchy said.

Three of the men joined a group of unrelated people already in the area, the sergeant said. Seeley became upset and wanted to leave the area and began kicking the Audi, Gotchy said.

According to Gotchy, Seeley also said he had a knife and would begin stabbing people if they did not leave.

The victim, Christopher Jason Aviles, 23, of Bend, confronted Seeley and tried to calm him down, the sergeant said. Seeley was armed with a knife at the time, he said, and a fight ensued.

Gotchy said Aviles tackled Seeley to the ground, and both men received minor injuries in the fight.

Seeley left with two other people in the car, including the driver, his brother, Joshua Alan Seeley, 24, also of Bend, leaving Aviles behind.

David Seeley was arrested on fourth-degree assault and menacing charges, Gotchy said. He was treated at the scene by Bend Fire Department medics, while Aviles refused treatment.

Joshua Seeley also was arrested, on a parole violation, and was being held without bail Tuesday at the Deschutes County Jail.
