Deschutes bike-ped panel seeks member
The Deschutes County Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BPAC) seeks an applicant to fill one vacant at-large position.
Composed of nine voting members, BPAC’s mission is to promote and encourage safe bicycling and walking as a significant means of transportation in Deschutes County. The Deschutes County Board of Commissioners will approve this at-large vacancy.
BPAC is seeking a volunteer candidate from Deschutes County. Candidates with a background and/or interest in cycling and pedestrian issues are encouraged to apply. A majority of the monthly meetings take place in Bend from noon to 1:30 p.m. on the first Thursday of each month. Voting members are asked to serve a three-year term.
The committee’s goals include the development of a coordinated system of safe and convenient bikeways and walkways, stimulating public awareness of bicycling and pedestrian issues, and examine current and future financing options and budget strategies for bicycle and pedestrian projects. Besides the nine volunteer members, meetings are often attended by staff from City, County, and the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT).
BPAC advises Deschutes County officials and local jurisdictions in bicycle and pedestrian transportation and matters pertaining to existing and proposed road construction and signing. The Committee is a source of current information relating to the use of bicycle and walking as a means of transportation and strives to support them as a viable means of transportation in Deschutes County.
Please apply by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, January 24. The Board application process will remain open until filled. The Board hopes to appoint the new Committee member by March.
