La Pine fugitive captured, ending manhunt
Oregon State Police troopers alerted La Pine-area residents Sunday afternoon of a search in the vicinity of the La Pine Bi-Mart store west of Highway 97 that ended in the capture of a wanted La Pine man who ran from a car, his second police chase and manhunt in less than seven months.
Troopers began searching for Craig Andrew Marcum, 48, after he ran from a car during a pursuit around 3 p.m., said Lt. Gregg Hastings.
Marcum was wanted on a felony warrant out of Deschutes County for violating conditional release on original charges, including attempting to elude police, burglary and car theft.
As darkness fell came word Marcum had been taken into custody near Huntington Road and Glenwood Drive around 6:15 p.m.
OSP Lt. Gregg Hastings said a Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office K-9 tracked down Marcum, who was taken to the county jail on the outstanding felony warrant and new charges of felony attempt to elude in a vehicle, misdemeanor attempt to elude on foot, reckless driving and recklessly endangering another person.
Anyone seeing Marcum had been urged to not approach him and immediately call 9-1-1- or OSP Northern Command Center dispatch at 800-452-7888 .
Last July, Marcum was arrested after leading police on a chase by stolen car, on foot and in the river, ending when a Deschutes County sheriff’s K-9 team found him hiding in a shop building.
