Freezing fog delays Jefferson Co., Culver schools
Freezing fog and slick roads prompted Jefferson County and Culver schools to open two hours late Friday — two of the districts not affected by Thursday morning’s round of ice-related school delays.
While Bend and Redmond airports reported clear skies and temperatures in the 20s at 5 a.m. Friday, Madras Airport was at 30 degrees, with freezing fog. By 6 a.m., Bend Airport was partly cloudy and 30 degrees, Madras still had freezing fog at the same temperature and it was clear and 24 degrees in Redmond.

The National Weather Service had a dense fog advisory in effect until 11 a.m. Friday for northern Deschutes, western Crook and much of Jefferson counties.
Ground fog and spots of ice were reported on Highway 97 at Madras early Friday, with icy spots also on other area roadways.
NewsChannel 21 Chief Meteorologist Bob Shaw said a wet system bringing heavy rain to much of California was moving northward, bringing more clouds and a chance of late-day showers on the High Desert. Highs are expected to be in the low to mid 40s, with light southeast winds.
Lows are due to drop back into the 20s Friday night, with an inch or two of snow likely in some areas by Saturday morning. Another storm is expected to bring rain, snow or a mix to the region on Sunday.
