SUV crashes on Hwy. 126; 2 hurt, driver cited
A Redmond woman was cited and two of six passengers went to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries late Thursday afternoon after her SUV left Highway 126 east of Redmond, struck a power pole and overturned, Oregon State Police reported.
Around 4:25 p.m., a 1999 Chevrolet Suburban driven by Karen Murray, 66, with seven passengers was heading west on the highway near milepost 4 when she lost control, troopers said. The SUV went off the highway and struck a power pole, landing on its side.
Passenger Paula Caldwell, 32, also of Redmond, and a 12-year-old boy were taken to St. Charles Redmond with non-life threatening injuries, troopers said.
Murray and the five other children, ages 6 months to 9 years, had no reported injury but did go to the hospital to be checked out.
The group was returning from a Cub Scout day camp outing when the crash occurred, friends told NewsChannel 21 on Facebook.
OSP troopers from the Bend and Prineville offices responded to the scene along with Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies, Redmond Fire & Rescue, Crook County area ambulance, U.S. Forest Service firefighters and ODOT. Pacific Power & Light personnel responded to repair the damaged pole.
Murray was cited by OSP for Fail to Drive within a lane.
