Brief after-school lockdown at Warm Springs Academy
A brief after-school lockdown was called Wednesday afternoon at the Warm Springs K-8 Academy after a parent who was not to be on school grounds was reported on site, officials said.
Jefferson County School District 509-J Superintendent Rick Molitor said the lockdown began around 3:35 p.m. when “a community member/parent that was not to be on school grounds was reported to the office.”
The lockdown lasted for about 15 minutes, he said, while athletics and after-school programs were underway at the 700-student school.
“As with any safety situation, a lockdown is called if any potential threat is felt by administration and/or staff,” Molitor said in an e-mail to NewsChannel 21.
Students still on site were called into the building while a school resource officer and Warm Springs police assessed the situation, the superintendent said.
“Once it was determined (to be) safe, the lockdown was released,” Molitor said.
A brief letter was sent home to parents Thursday about the lockdown involving an “unwanted visitor.”
