Can world’s climate target and India’s development coexist?

GLASGOW, Scotland (AP) — No country will see energy needs grow faster in coming decades than India, and even under the most optimistic projections part of that demand will have to be met with dirty coal power — a key source of heat-trapping carbon emissions. The fundamental question for India, and consequently the world, is whether there is enough “carbon space” in the atmosphere for India’s developmental needs to coexist with the global ambition of limiting warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius (2,7 degrees Fahrenheit) since pre-industrial times.
