A drunk driver crashed his pickup into and damaged a phone utility box in northeast Bend Friday afternoon, and witness information led to the Prineville man’s arrest at the other end of town on DUII, hit-and-run and other charges, police said.

Police learned shortly before 3 p.m. of a hit-and-run crash in the area of Highway 20 and Northeast 27 th Street, at the entrance to the Shell Stop and Go gas station, said Lt. Jason Maniscalco.

Witnesses told police a white F-150 pickup truck with a black canopy had struck and damaged a green phone utility box pulling it completely out of the ground, Maniscalco said.

They also reported the driver appeared extremely intoxicated and drove off the road, as well as into oncoming traffic, causing drivers to serve out of the way.

Maniscalco said police located the pickup being driven in the area of Benham and Murphy roads.

The driver, identified as Steven Michael Faith, 22, of Prineville, was arrested and booked into the Deschutes County Jail on charges of DUII, hit and run (property), reckless driving and first-degree criminal mischief. He was held on $25,000 bail.

CenturyLink was contacted about the damage to their utility box, Maniscalco said.
