Forest to provide rec info at Dutchman Sno-Park

KTVZ

Beginning Dec. 12 and each December Saturday thereafter, Deschutes National Forest law enforcement and recreation employees will be providing information to recreationists at the entrance to Dutchman Sno-Park.

Officials said the goal is to provide the public information regarding the rules and regulations of recreational use at Dutchman and other sno-oarks along the Cascade Lakes Highway.

“We want people recreating in this busy area to know what the rules are and make sure that everyone is able to have a safe experience on the Deschutes National Forest,” said Kevin Larkin, Bend-Ft. Rock District ranger.

Forest Service employees will be at the entrance from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturdays. Each car entering Dutchman Sno-Park will receive a flyer with guidelines for Sno-Park use.

If visitors have additional questions, Deschutes National Forest staff will be on-hand to answer questions, as well as provide informational materials, such as snowmobiling maps, cross country skiing maps and directions to various sno-parks.

A sno-park permit is required by state law in order to park at Dutchman Sno-Park, and any other sno-park on the Deschutes National Forest. If visitors arrive without a permit, they can drive a half-mile up the road to Mt. Bachelor’s Nordic Center to purchase one. Sno-park permits help fund the removal of snow at Dutchman and other sno-parks across the forest.
