Prineville man arrested in Sisters car theft, DUII crash
A 22-year-old Prineville man stole a car warming up in a Sisters driveway early Saturday and crashed it a short time later on Wilt Road, Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies said. He then left but was found nearby by deputies and arrested on DUII and other charges.
Deputies responded shortly before 6 a.m. to an address on East Cascade Avenue in Sisters on a report that a gray 1997 Lincoln Continental had just been stolen while the owner was warming it up in her driveway, said Sgt. Doug Sullivan. Deputies searched the immediate area and could not find it, he said.
County 911 dispatchers received a call around 6:15 a.m. from a citizen who had come upon a crash on Wilt Road, near Camp Polk Road, Sullivan said.
Responding deputies found the driver of the stolen car had failed to negotiate a curve in the road and struck a tree, then left before deputies arrived.
Deputies searched nearby properties and found the driver, Miguel Angel Molina Pacheco, who was arrested without incident, the sergeant said.
Pacheco was treated by Sisters-Camp Sherman Fire Department medics for minor injuries from the crash, then taken to St. Charles Bend for further treatment.
Pacheco was taken to and lodged at the Deschutes County Jail in Bend on charges of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, reckless driving and DUII. Jail officers said Pacheco was booked into the jail shortly before 10 a.m. and released about 90 minutes later to a responsible third party.
