Redmond PD offering online ‘virtual ride-along’ Friday
On Friday, the Redmond Police Department plans to conduct a “virtual ride-along” on Facebook and Twitter.
Beginning around noon, Redmond police will post to Facebook and Twitter in near real-time the activities of one officer as he responds to calls for service, conducts investigations and makes traffic stops.
Lt. Keith Knight said the department desires to share with the public what a “typical day” looks like.
“Since not everyone has the ability to go out on a real ride-along in a patrol vehicle, RPD will bring the ride-along to everyone,” Knight said.
People who follow Redmond police on Facebook and Twitter will begin receiving updates at noon.
The “virtual ride-along” will last until about midnight. The 12 hours will be split between day shift and night shift. Another officer will be drafting the posts and taking pictures or perhaps short videos to share.
Exact details of an incident will not be disclosed, nor will names of victims, witnesses, arrested or other contacted persons.
Currently the Redmond Police Department Facebook page has nearly 6,200 likes/followers. The Redmond Police Department enjoys sharing with the public as much of our activities as possible. We believe an open and transparent law enforcement agency breed’s trust between the police and
