RDM implements TSA boarding pass change
Redmond Municipal Airport said it became aware Thursday of a change in boarding pass requirements the Transportation Security Administration will be implementing Friday that “may inconvenience and affect a large number of passengers.”
“TSA may be unable to accept paper boarding passes printed by passengers effective April 29, 2016,” according to the airport — which coincidentally is closing Monday for three weeks for a major repaving project.
TSA boarding pass bar code scanners must be able to successfully scan boarding passes printed by passengers, the announcement said
“If the bar code has a smudge, doesn’t print properly, or the ink is too light, TSA may not be able to successfully scan it,” the airport announcement said.
When unable to scan a boarding pass, the passenger must present an electronic boarding pass on a mobile device or a printed boarding pass from the air carrier’s self-serve kiosk or customer service counter.
Passengers with printed boarding passes that don’t scan may find themselves in a situation, depending on the time, of being unable to secure a paper boarding pass from the air carrier’s self-serve kiosk or customer service counter, if the “cut off” time has occurred for checking-in, the airport said.
“TSA determined this is a necessary change to ensure security of all passengers,” the airport announcement said.
