On Monday evening, the Crook County Sheriff is hosting the first of seven public meetings to lay out his case for voters to back a bond measure that will pay for a new jail.
Sheriff John Gautney said there are nearly 100 people on a list waiting to serve their jail sentence, and crowding is causing a delay and a “criminal justice crisis.”
In November, voters will decide on a $10 million bond measure for a new jail that could house 76 inmates.
The rest of the money would come from the county, city of Prineville and loans.
Monday night’s meeting was set for 6:30 at Juniper Canyon Baptist Church.
Below is a list of future meeting times, dates and sites:
Powell Butte Community Hall, Wednesday, October 5, at 7 p.m.
