ODOT: Hwy. 20 trip through Sisters triples at Thanksgiving

KTVZ

Thanksgiving travel through Sisters on U.S. Highway 20 may take three times longer than normal this holiday due to congestion, depending upon the time and day of travel, ODOT said Friday..

ODOT’s travel monitors recorded real-time average travel times last Thanksgiving holiday weekend and found that travel times spiked on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving and the Friday following Thanksgiving.

Eastbound average travel time along the Highway 20 corridor through Sisters on the Friday following Thanksgiving increased from a normal of about 6 minutes to as much as 18 minutes due to increased motor vehicle and foot traffic.

All of the highways in the Central Oregon area have experienced significant increases in traffic volumes over the past two years and are expected to see substantial congestion over the holiday, the agency said.

Traffic managers with ODOT Region 4 in Bend are advising motorists to be alert to these delays and plan accordingly.
