Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies asked the public for help Wednesday in finding a 24-year-old woman who left her Plainview-area home Tuesday and didn’t return.

The sheriff’s office received a report just after 6 p.m. Tuesday of Nickel C-Ann Bird being missing from her home on Paladin Drive, about 10 miles west of Bend, said sheriff’s Lt. Chad Davis.

A roommate reported she last had been seen around 12:30 p.m. and left on foot, possibly hitchhiking from the area on Highway 20, Davis said. She has a cellphone, which is turned off, but has no vehicle.

Davis said Bird is believed to be suffering from a mental health condition, and may be armed with a handgun. While her destination and whereabouts are unknown, Bird has ties to California and Florida, he said.

She’s described as 5-foot-7 and about 145 pounds, with long brown hair and blond highlights, green eyes, a scar on her right check, two earrings in both ears and wearing numerous rings and bracelets.

She was wearing tan pants, hiking boots, a gray and green beanie hat and an unknown coat, and was carrying a tan Army-style backpack.

The sheriff’s office is asking the public for any information about Bird’s whereabouts, or who saw her any time after 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, to call the agency at 541-693-6911.
