Raid on Prineville-area home turns up stolen Redmond ATV

A raid Monday on a home north of Prineville turned up an ATV stolen in Redmond in August, as well as stolen vehicle parts, leading to a resident’s arrest and more charges against a Jefferson County Jail inmate, officials said.

Crook County sheriff’s deputies executed a search warrant at a home in the 7400 block of Northwest Edwards Road, assisted by the Central Oregon Emergency Response Team and Prineville and Redmond police, Undersheriff James Savage said.

A two-month investigation led to the raid where deputies recovered the stolen ATV and vehicle parts, as well as evidence linking Tyler Jo Shinkle, 25, of Prineville, to the vehicle thefts and possession of a handgun from a prior case. He already was in custody at the Madras jail on other charges.

Shinkle also recently was charged in the August theft of an ATV from a flatbed trailer parked on a northwest Redmond street, but the ATV was still missing at the time. The Crime Stoppers case assisted in the initial investigation, officials said.

Kayly Mary Ruth Smith, 23, who lives at the Edwards Road home, was there with her child at the time of the raid. Savage said. Resident William Andrew Wilson, 34, was at work and contacted by Redmond police and brought back to his home.

Evidence recovered at the home linked Wilson to a September vehicle pursuit involving an Oregon State Police fish and wildlife trooper, the undersheriff said.

Wilson was found to be the operator of the stolen ATV recovered Monday, from the September pursuit, Savage said.

Wilson was arrested on an attempt to elude charge and a probation violation and lodged at the Crook County Jail. Smith was issued a citation in lieu of custody for forgery and coercion.

Shinkle faces several new charges, including possession of a stolen vehicle, felon in possession of a firearm, forgery and coercion.
