Bend man arrested in assault on girlfriend

Police surrounded a southeast Bend home Sunday afternoon and arrested a 29-year-old man, accused of assaulting and trying to strangle his 27-year-old girlfriend at her home early last week.

Police were dispatched around 7:30 p.m. last Monday to a reported domestic dispute and assault at a home in the 400 block of Southeast Roosevelt Avenue, Corporal Joe Pacheco said.

While officers were headed to the scene, the reported suspect, Isac Zacarias, fled the area, Pacheco said.

Officers at the scene of the alleged attack developed probable cause to arrest Zacarias on charges of felony fourth-degree assault and strangulation, the corporal said.

Around 2 p.m. Sunday, officers learned Zacarias had returned to the location of the assault, Pacheco said. Numerous officers set up a perimeter and arrested him as he was leaving the home.

Zacarias was taken to the Deschutes County Jail and lodged on the assault and strangulation charges, with bail initially set at $20,000, according to online jail records.

No one was injured during the arrest, Pacheco said.
