Hillsboro police K-9 ‘Billy’ killed in crash

HILLSBORO, Ore. (AP) – A police dog named Billy who worked for the Hillsboro Police Department has died in a car crash while working with his handler.

The patrol car that Billy was riding in was struck by a car late Monday.

The human officer sustained only minor injuries, but Billy suffered massive trauma and died.

The driver of the other car remained at the scene.

No citations have been issued at this point, but the accident is under investigation.

Hillsboro Police Dept. news release;

It’s with great sadness that we share the loss of Hillsboro Police K9 Billy this morning.

K9 Billy and his handler, Officer Zaugg were involved in a traffic crash this evening at TV HWY and Century Blvd.

At 10:38 p.m.(12/04/17) Officer Zaugg was traveling west bound on TV Hwy approaching the Century Blvd intersection. A vehicle traveling east bound made a left turn onto Century Blvd, striking the patrol vehicle.

Officer Zaugg received minor injuries, however, K9 Billy suffered massive trauma and did not survive the injuries.

The Washington County CART is handling this investigation. The driver of the remained on the scene. No citations have been issued at this point. This case is still under investigation.
