Sunriver residents seek answers on Mills investigation

The Sunriver Service District held a meeting Thursday night, and one of the big topics was the investigation of Police Chief Marc Mills.

Officials are tight-lipped about what the investigation into Mills is about, but people attending the meeting were vocal about the police chief, who recently was placed on paid administrative leave pending results of an Oregon Department of Justice criminal investigation.

The biggest sentiment was just wanting to know what the investigation is about.

The district board held a survey about public safety, and despite the turmoil, service district board Chairman Jim Fister said Sunriver residents gave a vote of approval.

“The survey results were generally positive,” he said. “The comments were generally positive. I’m very happy with and proud of the service district personnel for the job that they do, especially in light of some of the events that have been happening.”

Meanwhile, the board unanimously approved Bend police Captain Cory Darling to fill the role as interim police chief.

NewsChannel 21 is continuing to work to learn more about the investigation by the Oregon Department of Justice. Deschutes County District Attorney John Hummel has said he will make the decision on whether charges are warranted, based on what the DOJ investigation finds.
