Salem man jailed in Plainview drugged-driving crash

A Salem man who said he’d smoked marijuana earlier in the day was arrested on drugged-driving and other charges after a rear-end three-vehicle crash Monday night on Highway 20 east of Sisters that sent the two other drivers to the hospital, Oregon State Police said.

The crash occurred around 7 p.m. Monday at the intersection with Plainview Road, OSP Captain Bill Fugate said.

An investigation determined that a silver 2013 Subaru Outback driven by Theresa Kinish of the Plainview area had stopped or slowed on Highway 20 to turn left onto Plainview Road, Fugate said.

A red 2004 Toyota Corolla driven by Jay Dee Sinor Jr., 28, of Salem also was heading west and slammed into the back of Knish’s car, causing it to go into the oncoming lane and collide head-on with a gray 2013 Chevy Silverado pickup driven by Kellen Mulholland, 20, of Bend.

Kinish and Mulholland were taken by ambulance to St. Charles Bend, where they were being treated Tuesday for non-life-threatening injuries, Fugate said. Two passengers in Sinor’s car were uninjured, troopers said.

Sinor was arrested on a DUII charge after failing a roadside field sobriety test for DUII. Fugate said Sinor “admitted smoking marijuana early in the day.”

Sinor was taken to the Deschutes County Jail in Bend, where he was held on $45,000 bail Tuesday and arraigned on the district attorney’s initial charges, according to court records. Jail records showed he faces charges of DUII, two counts of third-degree assault, one count of fourth-degree assault, recklessly endangering and reckless driving charges.

Davis Towing towed all three vehicles to Sisters.
