Snow moves into Pacific Northwest

SEATTLE (AP) – Strong winds over the weekend carried snow into the Pacific Northwest, causing slick roads and multiple crashes.

Twenty-five vehicles were involved in crashes on Interstate 90 east of Seattle on Saturday and restrictions on all Washington mountain passes remained in effect on Sunday with more snow in the forecast.

Snow was also expected Sunday in Oregon with about an inch expected to fall in Portland, according to the National Weather Service. Four inches could fall for regions higher than 500 feet.

The Coeur d’Alene Idaho Press reported monster snowflakes blanketed North Idaho with 7.3 inches early Saturday, breaking the previous Feb. 17 record of 7 inches set in 1986.

The snow was followed by an afternoon of icy rain, gusty wind and even a loud clap of thunder.
