Bend Man Arrested After Noisy Redmond Chase

KTVZ

A Bend man allegedly driving drunk and recklessly with a suspended license on the north side of Redmond eluded spike strips several times early Saturday before hitting a set, ending a noisy pursuit that awakened many residents along the way.

Chad Steven Pommarane, 35, refused to pull over and was able to swerve around and avoid several deployments of ?stop sticks? (also known as spike stripes, designed to flatten a car?s tires and end a pursuit).

It all began just before 2 a.m., in the area of 27th and Antler Avenue, when Pommarane allegedly ?committed numerous traffic violations? seen by a Redmond officer, Sgt. Bob Duff said in a news release.

Oregon State Police and Deschutes County sheriff?s deputies joined in the ?felony pursuit? through Redmond?s north side, Duff said.

The pursuit was at ?relatively slow speed? and took about 12 minutes from start to finish, according to Sgt. Curtis Chambers who added, ?It was enough to wake me up in the middle of the night.?

One resident wrote to NewsChannel 21 that ?the city is lit up between sirens and blaring lights. Not sure what?s going on, but the turbos in the magnums are working great.?

Some residents awakened by the noise around 2 a.m. went to see what happened. Sandra Cook said on KTVZ?s Facebook page, ?They got him by Maple and Northwest Way with spike strips. Last we (saw), he?s in cop car, two flat front tires and broken driver window.?

Several people said the pursuit went in circles at times, going through the 19th and Maple area at least twice.

Pommarane was taken to the Deschutes County Jail and lodged on $25,500 bail, facing nine charges including felony attempt to elude a police officer, reckless driving, felony driving with a suspended license, third-degree attempted assault, reckless endangering, second-degree criminal trespass, resisting arrest, attempted assault on a peace officer — and DUII.

Redmond police expressed gratitude to OSP and the sheriff?s office for helping ?this incident to be brought to a safe and successful conclusion.?
