Microchip One Lucky Bend Cat’s Meow
The importance of a microchip under the skin of your family pets was happily on display this week, when a little Bend girl’s missing kitten was brought home, two months after it ran out of the house.
“Pumpkin” belongs to 4-year-old Carly and her mother, Robin Cooper. Robin said she was doing yard work outside, when their furry friend ran out of the house in June.
No matter how hard the family looked, they could not find their kitten.
Then, on Thursday, several miles from their home, the kitty’s soft meow led Deschutes Vet Clinic workers to find Pumpkin right outside their office. Officials said they found that the kitten was microchipped — and with the information it contained, in just hours, Pumpkin was reunited with her family, just in time for Robin’s birthday.
“That was exciting, though, because my daughter Carly received Pumpkin as a gift on Christmas from Santa,” Robin said. “Then, we got a call yesterday, on my birthday, so it was really cool.”
Robin said if it wasn’t for the microchip, she doesn’t know if they would have seen Pumpkin again.
“I just truly believe in the chips,” Robin said. “It’s an awesome piece of what we can do for our animals, and it’s been great to have that — and have our cat back.”
