Art enthusiasts attend Bend festival
More than 100 artists filled the Old Mill District Sunday displaying their artwork on the High Desert.
Artists from across the country and even Canada made their way to the fifth annual Art in the High Desert show which ended its run Sunday.
The event was free for all three days.
The show is juried, meaning that the artists have to go through a competitive process to get their art into the show.
The jury picks art that is above and beyond what you would normally see at any other regular art show.
“They have to send us six slides — five of their artwork, one of their booth,” said Carla Fox, Art in the High Desert director. “Then a four-person jury goes through their work and picks out about 110 artists from over 300 entries.”
Fox said most of the artists are national award-winners and teachers, and some even run art shows themselves.
Organizers estimated that 15,000 to 20,000 people attended over the weekend. They offered thanks to the Old Mill District for the space.
