‘Stuff the Bus’ for Bend elementary students
Teachers know first-hand how difficult it is for a student to concentrate on their school work on an empty stomach.
Family Access Network (FAN), a Bend-based non-profit organization comprised of teachers who provides food for local families, can share many a story of hungry youngsters dumpster diving for something to eat before the school bell rings. FAN (a 21 Cares for Kids partner) and Albertsons want this to stop.
With the help of parents and Bend Albertsons customers, FAN launched a two-week ‘Stuff the Bus’ promotion on Feb. 11 at Albertson’s South (61155 S. Highway 97 (at Pinebrook) to raise funds for the purchase of healthy snacks to benefit needy students at Juniper, Jewell, Pine Ridge and Elk Meadow elementary schools.
The request is simple – $1.00 to purchase such items as apple sauce bowls, mixed fruit bowls, fruit snacks, granola bars and peanut butter. The campaign ends on Sunday, Feb. 24 and FAN is looking to engage the entire Bend community to help fill a school bus with these much-needed snacks.
