Ore. National Guard members face furloughs
The Oregon National Guard said Wednesday it has begun notifying nearly 1,000 military technicians, including 25 in Central Oregon, of scheduled furloughs this summer, a result of the federal budget sequestration.
Furloughs (unpaid leave) are scheduled to begin on July 8, said Stephen Bomar, director of public affairs for the Oregon Military Department.
“Supervisors and managers will ensure that furloughs are properly spaced to ensure minimal impact to operations,” Bomar said.
The furlough is for 88 hours, or 11 full days, between July and September, affecting all positions, from mechanics to administrative personnel, he explained.
The Oregon Military Department’s human resources staff is conducting internal town hall meetings in several locations throughout the state over the next week.
Federal technician employees who participate in the town hall meetings can have their questions answered about the furlough process.
