Bend PD assigns summer downtown officers

KTVZ

The Bend Police Department said Tuesday it will be designating two officers to the downtown district through the summer months

Officers Wes Murphy and Joe Pacheco “will be assigned to downtown in an effort to be more responsive to the increased calls for service during the summer months,” said Lt. Chris Carney.

“These officers will be working on foot, bicycles, and in patrol cars to provide coverage seven days a week with varying hours to accommodate this area’s needs.,” Carney said.

The purpose of placing officers downtown, he said, “is not only to provide a quicker response to in-progress calls but also to deter potential crimes.”

“We also hope this will address quality of life issues for our community members and visitors,” Carney said..

“If you see one of our officers, at any location, and they are not handling a call for service, we would encourage you to introduce yourself to them. The Bend Police Department is your department and we are happy to answer any questions we can.”
