Bend transformer fire knocks out power, traffic lights
A transformer fire overnight cut power to about 75 Pacific Power customers in northwest Bend, also knocking out traffic signals along Wall Street in the area of Revere Avenue and Hill Street, officials said.
Utility spokesman Tom Gauntt said crews were working to make repairs and restore power, but there was no estimate for when it would be completed.
Deschutes County dispatchers said the transformer-box fire was reported around 2:30 a.m.
Bend fire crews responded to the report of a blown transformer, with flames showing, at the corner of Revere Avenue and Wall Street, said Battalion Chief Dave Howe. The fire was out when they arrived, and the scene was turned over to Pacific Power crews, Howe said.
Drivers are reminded to treat intersections where signals are out as four-way stops.
