High winds prompt Bend-area debris burn closure

KTVZ

The Bend Fire Department and Deschutes County Rural Fire Protection District #2 have closed burning for the remainder of Tuesday due to increasing winds throughout the Bend area, officials said.

Fire officials asked anyone currently burning to extinguish immediately and ensure the fire is completely out to prevent the winds from fanning the fire back up later in the day.

Debris burning is not allowed within Bend city limits at any time as per city ordinance.

A copy of the current burn regulations shall be kept on hand whenever you are burning. In those burn regulations, it states to not burn on windy days. If you live outside the Bend area, always check with your local fire agency or department on their current burn restrictions and regulations.

Officials ask everyone to call the burn information line at 541-322-6335 every time they want to burn to check on the status of burning. More information about safe burning can be found at www.bendoregon.gov/burninginfo

Burning will be reopened when weather conditions improve and it is once again safe to do so.
