Crooked River Ranch crews assist teen hiker
Crooked River Ranch firefighters came to the aid of a 17-year-old girl who was reported in distress Sunday while hiking in the Crooked River Canyon, officials said.
Crooked River Ranch Fire and Rescue crews were called out just after noon and traveled to the trailhead for the Hollywood Trail, then hiked about three-quarters of a mile down into the canyon to the teen, said Assistant Chief Sean Hartley.
They then assessed and treated the patient for weakness, he said.
Crews helped the teen out of the canyon and took her to St. Charles Redmond for further evaluation.
Hartley said firefighters want to remind everyone to take at least two liters of water with them when hiking.
“When hiking on hotter days, you may need to take more water to stay adequately hydrated,” Hartley wrote.
