Smoke prompts cancellation of Bend ALS Walk

KTVZ

Due to dangerously high levels of smoke in the air, the 2017 Central Oregon Walk to Defeat ALS® that would have taken place this Saturday, September 9 th at Riverbend Park has been cancelled, officials said Tuesday.

“The health and safety of all Walk participants, volunteers, and staff is of utmost importance, and The ALS Association apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause,” the announcement said. The Southern Oregon event scheduled the same day also has been canceled due to hazardous smoke levels.

Determined to not let these fires dampen the spirit of the Central Oregon Walk to Defeat ALS®, The ALS Association and Bend community will still be working together to meet their goal of raising $75,000 in support of the fight against ALS and the community it affects.

“Let’s do our part in creating a world without ALS!” organizers said.
