KTVZ

Strong winds fanned a brushfire near south of Highway 20 and Pilot Butte in northeast Bend early Monday morning, but crews held it to a half-acre and a large Ponderosa pine tree, officials said.

A Bend Fire Department engine responded around 3:30 a.m. to the report of a brushfire in the area of Pilot Butte, said Battalion Chief Dave Howe.

The crew found the brushfire and several spot fires on vacant property in the area of Northwest 12th Street and Hawthorne Avenue, Howe said. and requested a brush engine.

An additional engine and a water tender responded, at the incident commander’s request. A total of 10 personnel were on scene.

The cause of the fire was not determined, Howe said.
