KTVZ

The Redmond High School Marine Corps Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps won two state Cascade Mountain League all-service championships on Saturday in Salem.

“It was a total team effort and we won the championship by a significant margin,” retired Lieutenant Colonel Doug Seal said. “I’m proud of our cadets for consistently performing so well at a variety of events.”

The team is led by Seal and retired Master Gunnery Sergeant Mike Trammel, both of the United States Marine Corps.

The championships are a combination of multiple drill team events, two classes of air rifle marksmanship, and a physical training team competition.

There are 14 teams representing Oregon and Washington in the Cascade Mountain JROTC League. The Redmond High team placed in the top five in every competitive category.

The Redmond High team also won the League’s Sportsmanship Award, voted on by the league coaches, instructors, evaluators, scorers and other league officials. The Sportsmanship Award is named after the late Lieutenant Colonel Terry Welch, who is one of the leagues founders.
