Haystack Reservoir rec area to reopen after paving
The U.S. Bureau of Reclamation said Wednesday it will reopen the West Shore Recreation Area at Haystack Reservoir around Friday, May 11. The West Shore Recreation Area has been closed to the public since April 9 for the paving of roads, campsites and parking lots.
Haystack Reservoir is located about 10 miles south of Madras.
The West Shore single campsites are $15 per site for each night, and parking fees are $5 per day for each vehicle.
The North Shore Fishing Pier day-use area continues to be open for day-use recreation activities. It is open year-round, from dawn to dusk, with an accessible fishing pier to enjoy fishing, sightseeing, and access to the reservoir. Parking at North Shore is free of charge.
The South Shore Group Campground continues to be open for the 2018 season. Group campsites are $75 per site. To make group reservations at South Shore for the 2018 season, visit www.recreation.gov or call 1-877-444-6777. For additional information, contact the Bend Field Office at 541-389-6541.
Haystack Reservoir borders Crook, Deschutes and Jefferson counties and is impounded by Haystack Dam, which was built in 1957. It is owned by Reclamation and operated by the North Unit Irrigation District that supplies irrigation water to the area.
